Nous, les Ami.e.s du Théâtre de la Liberté de Jénine en France, sommes très inquiets à cause de l’attaque des forces de police israéliennes contre le théâtre Al-Hakawati. Ces menées sordides contre une pièce pour enfants reflètent la brutalité et la répression systématique inhérentes aux forces d’occupation. Elles montrent aussi à quel point l’occupation craint les expressions de la culture palestinienne, même dans une simple pièce pour enfants. Ce dont elle a le plus peur ce sont les efforts des Palestiniens pour se rassembler et agir dans le champ culturel. Elle sait que la culture palestinienne est un outil puissant de résistance au nettoyage ethnique qu’Israël s’emploie à réaliser depuis des décennies.
Nos partenaires du Freedom Theatre, en exprimant leur solidarité, rappellent qu’eux aussi ont été attaqués, leur théâtre et leurs bureaux pillés et eux-même chassés du camp avec tous ses habitants.
Nous avons eu la chance d’assister à vos représentations au Théâtre du Soleil en France en octobre dernier et nous avons pu admirer comment vous avez adapté, mis en scène et joué cette antique pièce d’Aristophane. Nous savons combien il doit être difficile de travailler à Jérusalem en ce moment et vous avez tout notre soutien.

We, Friends of the Jenin Freedom Theatre in France, are very concerned by the Israeli police forces’ attack on Al Hakawati Theatre. This sordid raid on a children’s play mirrors the occupation forces inherent brutality and systematic repression. It shows also how much they fear expressions of Palestinian culture, even in a simple children’s play. What they fear most is how people work and put efforts and get together in the cultural field. They know that the Palestinian culture is a strong tool of resistance to the ethnic cleansing Israel has been trying to achieve for decades.
Our partners at the Freedom Theatre, expressing their solidarity, recall they also have been assaulted, their theatre and offices looted and themselves expelled out of the camp along with all its residents.
We had a chance to attend your performance at le Théâtre du Soleil in France, in October and we admired how this ancient Aristophane’s piece has been adapted, directed and performed. We know how difficult it must be to work now in Jerusalem and we stand with you. With that performance, you underline how crucial it is to showcase out of Palestine the talent and strength of the Palestinian cultural resistance
